Last month, a new cycle area opened at the northern entrance to Bury St Edmunds station.

The new hub offers 52 spaces and was opened on the 18th September by Greater Anglia representatives, West Suffolk Council, and Suffolk County Council.

The fully enclosed hub cost £200,000 and features extra lighting and CCTV, and has an extra secure section for 16 cycles.

The funds came from the Department for Transport (funds managed by Sustrans), Suffolk County Council, and West Suffolk Council.

The access-controlled section can be entered using a SMART Card.

There is also a new path which leads to the station to improve safety for those cycling and walking.

“We are delighted to have received this funding to improve security and accessibility for cycles at Bury St Edmunds station.

“The new facility will not only help to provide greater security for cyclists, but it will help to encourage more people to travel more sustainably by bike and public transport to help improve congestion on the roads and the quality of the air we breathe.”

Andrew Goodrum, our Infrastructure & Major Projects Director
