The overhaul of Salford Crescent station is one step closer to being complete ahead of its opening next year.
Network Rail and Kier Construction have been working hard this year to build a third platform featuring stair and lift access.
Recently, they have been working to install new platform canopies and staircases during a weekend closure on the 13th and 14th September.
Work at the remaining station does not require any railway closures.
The new platform, when it opens next year, will allow extra space for trains and help prevent any backlogs of trains from occurring.
Thanks to a £10 million investment into the station by Northern, Network Rail and Transport fr Greater Manchester, other work will be underway to improve the existing parts of the station.
This includes upgrading platforms, a new ticket office on the lower level, and better signage to help people connect with the Bee Network.
The work is stated to be 75% complete and still plans to open in the spring.
“We’d like to thank passengers travelling through Salford Crescent this year for their patience while we’ve been carrying out these transformational upgrades.
“We’ve worked very closely with our partners and contractors to keep the disruption to a minimum. It’s great to see the new facilities really taking shape, with the stairs, lift shafts and platform canopies progressing at pace and giving a real sense of what the station will look like when it’s complete next year.”
