After three days of engineering work, Network Rail has completed the planned work between Wokingham and Reading, on the 25th-27th October.
South Western Railway and Network Rail have expressed thanks to customers.
They were working on replacing Reading Spur Junction, which ensures trains can connect to the North Downs Line and the Great Western Main Line.
This essential work was complex, so it could not be carried out during a weekend closure.
Work still remains ongoing between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside, which will remain closed until the 1st November.
“We’re grateful to our customers for their patience whilst these essential works which will make their journeys more reliable were carried out. Whilst we understand that there is never a good time to close the railway, these works took place at a time when we typically see less people travelling.
“We would also like to remind customers that upgrades to the line between Staines and Windsor and Eton Riverside will continue, with buses replacing trains until Saturday 1 November.”

Impressive rail crane – seen it action a few years ago. A serious bit of kit.
