In Partnership with Transport for London (TfL) and the Railway Heritage Trust (RHT), Arriva Rail London (ARL) has unveiled a transformed Clapton London Overground station.

The unused building on platform one and its surroundings have been given new life, being transformed into a heritage-inspired and vibrant space, thanks to the funding from TfL and RHT.

The three groups worked closely to create a restoration plan which brought in modern amenities but still kept the heritage charm.

The building on platform one has been closed since the 1980s and, due to remaining unused for many years, has fallen into disrepair.

The building is now home to a waiting room, viewing gallery, employee facilities and an accessible toilet.

Remnants of Victorian furniture, including three benches, two of which have been repaired and have been placed in the waiting room.

The waiting room also has a fully functional weighing scale, with its original 1950s advertising, adding even more character to the platform.

The old switch room has also been repurposed into an accessible toilet and the viewing gallery, featuring British Rail electrical signage and vintage lighting.

“Clapton station has always been a hidden gem on our network, and this restoration has given it a new lease of life. What makes this project truly special is the way we’ve worked hand-inhand with the local community and colleagues – listening to their ideas, uncovering stories from the station’s past and creating a space that reflects their pride in the area.”
