Train services in London and Cambridgeshire will be disrupted during the Christmas holiday period.

Services in London affected will include those running from London Liverpool Street, the Stansted Express, and services between Clapham Junction and Shepherd’s Bush.

Summary of changes on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day:

  • Christmas Eve – some services will finish early.
  • Christmas Day – as usual, there will be no train services.
  • Boxing Day:
    • Stansted Express will start/finish at Tottenham Hale.
    • London Overground Mildmay line services will run between Clapham Junction and Shepherd’s Bush.

From Christmas Day, Thursday, 25th December, to New Year’s Day, Thursday, 1st January, major engineering work will take place at London Liverpool Street station.

During this time, work will be carried out to strengthen Bishopsgate tunnel on the approach to the station, including installing steel support girders inside the tunnel, and repairing existing steelwork to prevent corrosion.

Above the public concourse area and platforms 1-10, panels will be renewed to make the station lighter, the drainage system will be improved, and seals will be renewed to improve the roof’s resilience to more frequent and intense storms.

The station concourse will be closed throughout this period and will reopen on Friday, 2nd January 2026.

Saturday 27 December to Thursday 1 January

  • Greater Anglia services on the Great Eastern and West Anglia mainlines, and Stansted Express services, will start/finish at Stratford.
  • London Overground Weaver line services will operate between Chingford / Enfield Town / Cheshunt and London Fields.
  • All c2c trains will start/finish at London Fenchurch Street via West Ham.

Cambridge area

From Christmas Day, Thursday, 25th December to Sunday, 4th January 2026, major engineering work will disrupt services in the Cambridge area because of the Cambridge resignalling project, which started last year, and to continue work on the new station at Cambridge South. The work will affect the following services, with rail replacement bus services running from Friday, 27th:

  • Christmas Day and Boxing Day – no train services.
  • From Saturday, 27th December to Sunday, 4th January 2026
    • No train services between Royston/Stansted Mountfitchet and Cambridge/Cambridge North.
    • Train services between Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds will be subject to disruption.

London Overground Mildmay line

From Thursday 25 December to Sunday 4 January 2026, there will be no services between Gospel Oak and Richmond/Shepherd’s Bush. Services will be running between Stratford and Gospel Oak / Willesden Junction, with a shuttle service running between Clapham Junction and Shepherd’s Bush.
