Two bridges in Somerset and Wiltshire have been undergoing refurbishment, which Network Rail has now completed.

The work on Langport and Limpley Stoke bridges saw roads and railway services affected. The roads impacted have now been reopened.

Network Rail installed extra steelwork to strengthen the structures to allow services to run reliably across them.

Langport Bridge, which carries the railway from Castle Cary to Taunton, over the A378. There are traffic lights in place at night, with follow-up work planned on 13th, 14th, 21st, and 22nd September, where a full closure will be back in place.

Limpley Stoke, which carries the railway between Bath and Bradford-on-Avon over the B2108, which has now fully reopened.

“We’re grateful to the communities of Langport, Limpley Stoke and Winsley for their patience as these two bridges were renovated.

“We’ve been hard at work for several months in the West, making sure all the bridges in the region are fit for a modern railway.”

Network Rail principal portfolio manager Dan Parkes
