For approximately two weeks from next Monday, 29th September, there will be limited step-free access between the platforms at Stoke-on-Trent railway station in Staffordshire.
Both of the station’s lifts require urgent repairs, which means step-free access between the platforms will be temporarily unavailable.
However, a free, accessible taxi shuttle service will be available for those who require step-free access. Extra station staff will also be available to assist those customers who can use the stairs.
To ensure that engineers can continue to safely access and maintain the lifts’ motor equipment, both lift shafts require repairs to be made in their service areas. In addition, the interior wall panels will also be refurbished to help ensure greater lift reliability.
Whilst the work is ongoing, passengers travelling south from Platform 1 should use the main entrance on Station Road, whilst passengers travelling north from Platforms 2 or 3 will find easier access to the station from Car Park 3, which is at the rear of the station, just off the A5006 road.
Passengers who will need assistance in using the station should either speak to a member of the station staff, or contact their train operator’s Passenger Assist team before they travel
Passengers should also check their travel arrangements before they travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
The lifts also required urgent repairs in 2023, and as with this impending work, a free taxi shuttle service was also provided.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience these essential repairs will cause to passengers at Stoke-on-Trent station, and we will work as quickly as we can to restore step-free access between the platforms. While the lifts are closed, our advice is to allow extra time for your journeys, and where possible, contact your train operator’s passenger assistance team before travelling.”
Martin Ball, route infrastructure director for Network Rail’s West Coast South route

This could and should have been done when there was only EMR services in and out of Stoke due to the engineering works happening
