As part of the Railway 200 celebrations, Leamington Spa Station has new murals which highlight the railway through the years.
The murals were unveiled on 16th September and can be found near platforms 3 and 4.
Featured in the murals is the depiction of the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway on September 27, 1825, truly celebrating the historic bicentenary.
Chiltern Railway’s Community Investment Fund provided the funds for the murals, which were created by artist Katie O’Sullivan and pupils from Earlsdon Primary School and Westgate Primary School.

The unveiling was attended by Katie and the pupils alongside Chiltern Railway, community partners, and the district councillor for Arts, Culture & Economy.
The pupils also received Railway 200 cupcakes to celebrate.
“Railway 200 is a unique opportunity to celebrate the proud history of rail. I am delighted that customers at Leamington Spa can view these wonderful murals which perfectly capture this historic milestone for Britain’s railways.
“Our community work with partners and schools is crucial for the upkeep and enhancement of our stations which improve the travel experience for our customers.”
Daniel Gillard, Area Manager (Warwickshire) at Chiltern Railways

That’s fantastic. Well done Katie and the schools. I wondered when the art poster frames were going to be in-filled. Leamington’s such a beautiful Art Deco station that was rebuilt and opened in 1939, although the booking hall was modernised a few years ago.
