New funding from Cornwall Council will see £200,000 go towards a new accessible footbridge for Bodmin Parkway station.

While the project is awaiting the green light, the government confirmed the funding for a feasibility study, which will significantly improve the station.

The current station has no suitable crossing between platforms, meaning that those in wheelchairs or with accessibility issues and pushchairs are unable to use the station to its full potential.

Once the feasibility study is complete, the station’s improvement scheme will then be considered for further funding from the ‘Access for All’ scheme.

The station is a key link for residents, and the council sees massive potential in this upgrade.

The council leader and transport portfolio holder have expressed their support for the schemes to the Department for Transport.

“We are committed to providing connected, reliable, safe transport that works for the people of Cornwall.

“We appreciate that these are complex and costly engineering projects which take time to deliver, but they are worth it. I hope our support – and our successful partnership with Network Rail and GWR over the years to improve Cornwall’s rail infrastructure – gives government confidence in awarding funding to progress the project.”

Cornwall Council leader, Leigh Frost
