Following an appeal to restore a steam tram on the Telford Town Tramway, the tram will now be making its return on 24th August.
On the 24th, they will be officially reopening the tramway with special guest Tim Dunn.
Tim will be present to welcome the steam tram back into operation, as well as performing a naming ceremony at 1 pm.
Built in 1979 by Telford Development Corporation for Telford Town Park, the 4wVB steam tram was named ‘Thomas’ in 1980 by Rev. W. Awdry; however, the line fell out of use due to a legal dispute.
Telford Steam Railway saved the tram from being scrapped in 1992; however, in 2019, the boiler was condemned, which led to a campaign to restore it.
Thanks to the support that the campaign received, the tram has now finished a complete overhaul.
