On Tuesday, 29th July, Dovetail Games is releasing Rivet Games Class 170s in West Midlands Railway and CrossCountry Railway versions for Train Sim World.
Originally released as a ScotRail Class 170/4 for Rivet Games Fife Circle Line, the new versions include both Class 170/5 and 170/6 subclasses with detail changes such as original headlights, updated cabs and interiors in West Midlands Railway and CrossCountry liveries. Rivet Games has also developed an add-on for the busy route between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Centred on Birmingham and including the Lickey Incline in diesel traction, for players that already own the Birmingham Cross-City route, a new timetable will be available with a much wider variety of traffic from a selection of other Add-ons, and also new scenarios to play. Over 150 services, of which 58 are playable, will be available for the West Midlands Railway Class 170, and over 180, with 31 playable, for the CrossCountry version.
Both West Midlands Railway and CrossCountry versions will be available in two-car Class 170/5 and three-car Class 170/6 variants, with the option to couple two two-car units together to form a four-car train. Hidden in the timetable will be two trains longer than four cars.

Most of the playable Class 170 services are on the line between Bromsgrove and Birmingham New Street. CrossCountry Class 170 services run over the playable area of CrossCountry’s Cardiff to Nottingham route, whilst West Midlands Railway Class 170 services operate between Birmingham and Hereford, Great Malvern, and Worcester. Players will also find they overtake stopping Class 323 services on the four-track section of the Cross-City line between Kings Norton and Longbridge.
CrossCountry services currently don’t stop at Bromsgrove, they have been included in the Addon, otherwise they could only be operated on the short stretch between Birmingham New Street and University.
West Midlands Railway versions can also be played between Aston and Birmingham New Street on services to Walsall, Wolverhampton, and Shrewsbury, which only featured Class 170s for a short time, as in the May 2019 timetable on which the Addon is based.

Also included are empty coaching stock movements and services from both operators that occupy Birmingham New Street with services to Shrewsbury, Nottingham, Leicester, and Stansted Airport.
Train Sim World 5: West Midlands Railway & CrossCountry BR Class 170 DMU will cost £12.99 and be available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 from Epic Games Store and Steam.
As well as developing route Addons, Rivet Games has also developed locomotive packs, such as the Class 66 Engineering Express Pack released in 2024.
