The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre has announced that their GWR Hall, No. 6989 Wightwick Hall, is to play the role of 5972 Hogwarts Castle in the Harry Potter series.

6989 is also a hall, which follows on from Olton Hall’s appearance in the original films.

The railway centre says that its appearance in the series will ensure its future for years to come.

We are extremely proud to share that our beautifully restored steam loco Wightwick Hall will play the role of the iconic locomotive for the Hogwarts Express in the highly anticipated Harry Potter television series!

  1. Not another aHall (albeit a Modified Hall this time) mixed up with Harry Potter! We have effectively lost 5972 Olton Hall to Harry Potter at Leavesden and, more recently, 4920 Dumbleton Hall to Harry Pottef somewhere in deepest Japan, so one hopes that 6989 Wightwick Hall does not get swallowed up by the Harry Potter movement in the same way.

What happens when eventually the bottom falls out of the Harry Potter empire? The Preservation movement may be able to retrieve Olton Hall from Leavesden, but it would be much more difficult to retrieve Dumbleton Hall from Japan. We simply must not allow Wightwick Hall to get effectively imprisoned by Harry Potter.
