A new footbridge upgrade will be going underway this summer at Longport.
Network Rail will be carrying out the £1.4 million project, which will improve the safety and resilience of the bridge.
Beginning on the 26th July, running until the 14th September, engineers will be carrying out the work, which will cause a diversion to transfer platforms.
Network Rail will be replacing damaged parapets and stair units, relocating the cable trays away from the overhead lines, upgrading the lighting and repainting to prevent further corrosion.
The bridge hasn’t had work done to it in quite a few years, so it has some wear and tear to it.
The diversionary routes (seen below) between platforms will be around nine minutes, so passengers should check before they travel online and allow for extra time on their journeys.

Disruption should be acknowledged in August while Network Rail replaces a bridge over the Greek Street Roundabout.
“We are advising any customers travelling to or from Longport railway station between Saturday 26 July and Sunday 14 September to allow extra time to get to the station before travelling.
“Network Rail will be carrying out essential safety upgrade to the footbridge and this will mean a diversionary route of up to 9 minutes will be in place to change between platforms 1 and 2.
“We’d like to thank our customers for their understanding and patience while this important work takes place. Once complete, the improvements will make the station safer in the future.”

Maybe the footbridge at Longport could be replaced by a footbridge with lifts or ramps.
