Publicly-owned train operator London North Eastern Railway (LNER) ran an Oasis-themed train service from Edinburgh to London ahead of last night’s concert by the band at Wembley stadium.

The train departed from Edinburgh Waverley station at 09:00 yesterday morning, and was decorated with an Oasis-themed design on its cab. The ‘She’s Electric’ design was applied to unit 801205.

The train carried fans from Edinburgh, Newcastle, Durham, Darlington, Northallerton, York, Doncaster, Newark Northgate and Peterborough southbound to London, with the operator reporting that it travelled “faster than a cannonball”, a lyrical reference to the Oasis song, ‘Champagne Supernova’. Fans had the opportunity to win goodies with an Oasis theme, including limited-edition bucket hats and T-shirts.

Musician Keiran La Fox played some classic Oasis songs from the 1990s on board the service to entertain passengers. The music continued when the train arrived at London King’s Cross, with disembarking fans being met with a performance by tribute band Oasiz.

As the hugely successful Manchester band performs its high-profile series of reunion concerts this year, train operators have been arranging travel for the many thousands of fans attending. This has included Transport for Wales services to Cardiff, and tram services to and from the band’s hometown gig in Heaton Park.

“We couldn’t miss the opportunity to mark the much anticipated return of the Gallagher brothers, as we know thousands of gig goers will be using LNER this summer to get to Oasis gigs in Wembley and Edinburgh. Our She’s Electric service made sure fans arrived feeling like a Rock N Roll Star with limited edition gear and plenty of onboard fun.”
