East Midlands Railway (EMR) have completed a £70,000 investment at Chesterfield as part of their Getting There Greener strategy.
They have worked to create the first fully LED-lit station on their network.
The project is part of their aim to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.
The upgrades saw a full upgrade to the lighting across the platforms, internal areas and car park.
They have also removed the gas-fired heating and replaced it with an air source heat pump, powered by renewable electricity.

Other stations have been included in their Getting There Greener initiative, such as Sheffield and Derby.
They are currently on track to upgrade all of the remaining gas heating systems by 2027.
“We’re proud of the transformation at Chesterfield, which demonstrates real, measurable progress in reducing our environmental footprint.
“The project has already cut our carbon footprint and saved £7,600 in utility bills, and we expect to use these ongoing savings to help make the financial case for further schemes at other stations in the future. But even at this early stage, it’s clear this has been a success.”
Matt Stacey, Head of Property at East Midlands Railway
