Transport for London (TfL) has proposed a cross-river extension of the DLR, which will run from Gallions Reach to Thameshead via Beckton Riverside.

They have now announced an open consultation event where people can have their say on it.

They held an initial consultation last year, which had a positive response and found that 75% of people think that the proposal will make journeys quicker.

Further surveys found that 85% supported the proposals.

This consultation will focus on the preferred route and station locations, on which the public can give feedback.

They have proposed a new station at Beckton Riverside, located opposite Gallions Reach Shopping Park, and one at Thameshead at Thameshead Waterfront.

The new stations would allow for faster and easier journeys to jobs and leisure.

They will be asking the public for their views on:

  •  The proposed route and new station locations
  •  Impacts on the existing transport network and local communities
  •  Early environmental assessments and construction considerations
  •  How the extension could be delivered

The consultation will be held from today (23rd June) until Sunday, 17th August 2025.

Further information on the proposal can be found on TfL’s website.

“The case to extend the DLR from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead via Beckton Riverside is clear as it provides a crucial opportunity to create new homes, jobs and economic growth by linking two major growth areas with two new accessible stations.

“It’s really important to get feedback from those who may benefit from the extension in future, as this will help shape the scheme as we progress through to the next stages of planning.”

Alex Williams, Chief Customer and Strategy Officer
