As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), Deighton Station will close temporarily from the 30th August until 2027.

The station will be completely rebuilt and replaced with a new modern station, which will make journeys greener and more reliable.

The platforms will be extended to accommodate longer trains, and there will be four tracks instead of the current two, allowing faster trains to overtake.

There will also be a new footbridge with step-free access via lifts, and a new station forecourt will be made with accessible parking and better waiting shelters. Access to the station had already been reduced in May to allow for some work to take place.

To facilitate the closure, an hourly rail replacement bus service will be in place between Huddersfield and Deighton.

From the 26th September 2025, the replacement buses will also stop at Brighouse.

Customers are being advised to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys.

Journeys and departure points can be checked online.

“We appreciate that this will cause disruption to station users and would like to thank passengers for their patience and support.

“The work being undertaken at Deighton will allow the station to be brought up to modern standards and accommodate better rail travel across the North.

“We encourage rail passengers and road users to check before they travel within the affected timeframes for the closures of both Deighton station and Whitacre Street.”

  1. Of course such an upgrade to a station is good news, but why on earth is it going to take until 2027 to re-open the station? I fear passengers will have forgotten the existence of this station by then and made other travel arrangements which they then won’t change.
Why does everything take so long to do in modern Britain?
