Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) engineers have been working on upgrades between Huddersfield and Leeds.
As of the 20th June, the series of work has now been completed.
During the upgrades, over 3km of track was renewed and essential drainage and tunnel works were carried out.
They installed the foundations for 55 overhead line equipment masts, which will allow the line to be electrified.
This will enable greener journeys and prevent delays caused by flooding.
Work at Dewsbury, which will see an extension of the platforms, has seen continued preparation work.
To expedite the work, they deployed 36 engineering trains and 6 tampers, which are vehicles that pack railway stone around the sleepers.
While this series of work has been completed, they will be continuing other work in October.
“Our engineers have worked around the clock over the last four weeks, and we’re delighted to have successfully completed our latest phase of upgrades safely and on time.
“With work ramping up across the entire TRU footprint, we’re edging closer to a faster, cleaner railway across West Yorkshire, with strong recent progress made on OLE installation in particular, which will help power electric services in the future.”
