Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway is now officially home to Britain’s newest railway station – Seathorne Bank.

After hours of work, a lot of which was completed by volunteers, Seathorne Bank was officially opened on the 28th June 2025.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark its opening was held, with the Mayor of Skegness, Cllr. Jimmy Brookes, volunteers and others who made the project possible were in attendance.

They had dancing and music by Swineshead Silver Band to help celebrate the opening of the stations.

Guests made their way to the ceremony in three 100+ year old carriages, where they were welcomed by Richard Shepherd, Chairman of the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway Historic Vehicles Trust.

The station project was made possible thanks to a joint grant from the UK Prosperity Fund and by East Lindsey District Council, South Holland District Council and Boston Borough Council. Match funding by the railway’s hosts, plus the owners of Skegness Water Leisure Park, Ellis Bros Ltd, brought the total funding up to £32,250.

The station has already won an award and will create a destination accessible only by rail.

The first public service will run to the station on the 9th July.

The railways made possible Skegness as one of Britain’s most popular seaside resorts and Ellis Bros (Contractors) Ltd., built much of the post-war town. This new development will help to attract more visitors and so boost the economy of the whole area”.

”We have come a long way since Kenneth Sr., Brian, Ron and Doug set the company up in 1947, eventually growing to build much of modern Skegness and expand into holiday parks and to create a business which now employs 80 people. This building at our new station demonstrates that it was the railways which built Skegness – no railways, no Skegness”.
