Avanti West Coast has launched its ‘Package for a Friend’ scheme today on Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025.

The scheme allows customers to access free period products on board trains to help ensure everyone can access care.

Customers can request products from the staff in the onboard shop or use the Click and Collect service.

Following suggestions from Avanti colleagues who brought up important issues such as period care, Avanti decided to make the change.

To deliver the scheme, Avanti has worked with sustainable period brand TOTM to stock their trains. TOTM has also worked with the likes of Merseyrail to provide passengers with products.

There will be posters onboard trains informing people on how to access the products.

Avanti has taken a huge step into being period positive and has joined other rail operators, such as LNER, in providing free period products to help those in need.

“We want everyone to have a comfortable journey when travelling with us and know the importance of making essential items available onboard our trains to enable this. So, we’re pleased to now be offering free period care and hope our customers will feel reassured they can access them when they need during their journey.”
