From the 21st July, the DLR timetable will see changes introduced ahead of a new fleet being introduced.
They have timed it during the summer months, when trains are typically less busy, to allow them to maintain reliable services during the change.
Important changes include:
- Services from Beckton to Canning Town/Stratford International will not run; however, services from Tower Gateway to Beckton will run.
- Between Stratford and Lewisham, peak-hour services won’t be running (Services between Canary Wharf and Stratford will run every 5 minutes in the peaks and every 6.5 minutes off peak. Bank to Lewisham services will continue to run as normal. If required, customers will need to change at Canary Wharf to continue their journey).
- Peak hours include Monday to Friday: 06:30 am – 10:00 am and 4:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Some of the older trains on the DLR will be retired during the summer, which is why the timetable needed to be changed.
The good news is that the first of the 54 brand new DLR trains will be entering service later this year, where the timetable will be restored.

In the meantime, there is extensive testing being carried out to ensure the introduction goes smoothly.
Customers are being advised to check before they travel and use the TfL Journey Planner and TfL Go app to keep up to date.
There will also be staff, announcements and posters around to help keep people informed and provide help where needed.
“The testing of the new DLR trains is progressing well and customers will start to be able to use these modern trains later this year. The new trains will ensure a more frequent and reliable service across the network and support growth in the Docklands and beyond.
“We need to begin retiring some of the oldest trains, meaning some short-term timetable changes are required. We apologise for this inconvenience to customers, but they are necessary to ensure we can maintain the safest most reliable service.”
Stuart Harvey, TfL’s Chief Capital Officer
