Northern operates busy routes in Yorkshire, and to help manage this will be introducing more six-carriage services this week.
The extra carriages will run between Leeds, Ilkley, Skipton and Bradford Forster Square and will provide 5,400 extra seats.
Typically, trains on these sections of the line only have 3 or 4 carriages, meaning that trains are usually very busy.
They are aiming to provide at least 1 in 6 trains with six carriages and will run at the busiest times of day.
Northern have already been preparing for these longer trains at their stations, through platform extensions at Apperley Bridge, Guiseley, Kirkstall Forge, Shipley, Menston, Bingley and Burley in Wharfdale.

Not every station can accommodate longer trains, there will be information available on which doors can be used to alight and board trains.
For example, at Steeton and Silsden and Cononley stations, passengers will be unable to use the two front carriages to move on and off the train as the platform has not yet been extended.
“We have been working hard to run a reliable service for customers on these routes and are now focused on providing extra capacity to meet demand.
“These six-carriage services will provide customers with more space and extra seats during the busiest periods so they can enjoy a more comfortable journey.”

The Nottingham-Sheffield-Leeds and Lincoln-Sheffield-Leeds services only have two-carriage trains and passengers regularly have to stand in over-crowded conditions. Can we have extra carriages too, please, Northern?
