As part of the Railway 200 celebrations, a collection of specially created drawings is now on display at Birmingham New Street.
Almost 30 pieces of art have been created by students at 6 schools and colleges, connecting the railway with some of Birmingham’s most famous names.
Some of the designs highlight historical figures and businesses, showing how crucial the railway has been to the city.
The Founding Fathers of Birmingham, Watt, Boulton and Murdoch have been featured alongside famous brands such as Dunlop and Cadbury.

The artwork celebrates the past, present and future of the city and the railway.
Students involved in the making of the art unveiled it at Birmingham New Street on the 4th of June.
This installation joins others which celebrate Railway 200, such as the Shakespeare Trail between Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon.
Further celebrations, including the special train ‘Inspiration’, will be unveiled at the Severn Valley Railway on the 27th June and will be on display until the 6th July.
The train will then move to Birmingham Moor Street for three days starting on the 8th July. Further information on Inspiration can be found online.
“It’s fantastic to have local schools and colleges showcasing their brilliant artwork at Birmingham New Street as part of Railway 200 celebrations. The station is at the heart of the city centre and plays a big part in the local community and, with more than 100,000 people using it every day, I hope the pupils’ and students’ creativity gets the recognition it deserves. It was a pleasure to see the artwork on display and to help unveil it with the schools and colleges.”
Denise Wetton, Network Rail’s Central route director
