Network Rail has invested £215,000 to upgrade a level crossing in Spalding.

The upgrades will replace the crossing surface cill beams, tarmac, road markings and deck units at Winsover Road crossing.

These upgrades will enhance the railway’s safety and reliability; however, they will result in the closure of the crossing and will impact road users.

Motorists as well as pedestrians are being told to check before they set off on the following dates:

  • Saturday 5th July from 8.30 pm to Monday 7th July at 7 am
  • Saturday 12th July from 8.30 pm to Monday 14th July at 7 am
  • Monday 11th August from 9.30 pm to Tuesday 12th August at 6.30 am
  • Tuesday 12th August from 9.30 pm to Wednesday 13th August at 6.30 am

The work is specifically scheduled for when no trains are running in order for the improvements to be completed quicker and with less disruption.

“This significant investment will deliver a much smoother and safer crossing for both rail and road users. We understand the disruption this essential work may cause and thank the local community for their patience while we complete these important upgrades.

“The current crossing surface has reached the end of its operational life and requires replacement to ensure continued safety and reliability. We’ve scheduled much of the work overnight and during weekends to minimise disruption to the public.”
