Glastonbury Festival
Glastonbury Festival // Great Western Railway

On the 25th June, Glastonbury Festival opens its gates to thousands of festival goers.

A large number of people are expected to travel to the festival by train, so planning ahead is heavily advised.

The ‘I Came By Train’ Pledge has also increased the demand for trains.

While the festival ends on the 29th June, most people will be heading home on Monday, 30th June.

This will make train services extremely busy, and to meet the demand, Great Western Railway requires those travelling to Castle Cary to make a reservation ahead of time.

There may also be queuing systems in place to keep people safe while they get to where they need to be.

Great Western Railway is reminding customers to download tickets ahead of time as the signal isn’t good at Castle Cary, and to keep devices charged as ticket and railcard checks will occur.

Passengers are advised to only bring what they can carry as space will be limited and trolleys or sack barrows will not be allowed on trains and buses.

Mid-morning trains are currently set to be the busiest, with more tickets available early morning and later in the afternoon. There are also additional trains in place to keep up with the demand.

Ticket prices vary from:

  • Super Off Peak – £81.20 – after 10 am and before 3 pm
  • Off Peak Return – £108.40 – a surcharge will be applied if you travel before 08:45 am on the Monday
  • Advanced tickets are also available

Further information is available with a full guide on the Great Western Railway’s website.
