A fallen tree means that the West Coast Main Line is blocked this morning, meaning delays and cancellations for passengers.
Network Rail is on site between Carlisle and Lockerbie, trying to make the line safe, but until then, trains may be cancelled or revised.
Disruption is currently expected until 2 pm today.
Avanti West Coast services are starting/terminating at Preston (Lancs) and means that the likes of Oxenholme Lake District, Carlisle and Edinburgh / Glasgow won’t be served.
Ticket acceptance is in place with CrossCountry, London North Eastern Railway, Northern, ScotRail and TransPennine Express.
TransPennine Express are also experiencing delays, with ticket acceptance in place with similar operators.
Road transport has been requested to run between Glasgow / Edinburgh and Carlisle, and these will call at (depending on the route): Motherwell / Haymarket / Lockerbie, and Carlisle.

Why is it that, whenever there is an issue that blocks the line north of Carlisle, Avanti terminates all its trains at Preston? They could could readily be terminated at Carlisle, where there is ample platform space and this would mean that Lancaster, Oxenholme and Penrith, as well as Carlisle, would still be served.
I still find this odd – if “road transport has been requested to run between Glasgow / Edinburgh and Carlisle” but the northbound trains terminate at Preston, how is anyone supposed to get between Carlisle and Preston?
