Weardale volunteers presented with a Chairman’s Medal

Trust volunteers have been awarded Chairman’s Medals by the County Council.

The Railway Trust is celebrating 30 years of operation, and throughout the years, volunteers have been promoting the heritage line.

Volunteers have also been helping to restore the section of the line which runs between and Stanhope. The 16-mile section, once restored, will be used for both passenger and freight services.

Across the years, they have been operating trains and have aided in bringing railtours and mainline excursions to the line.

They have worked with Weardale Railway Limited to introduce a new timetable stop at Kingfisher Halt.

This stop allows visitors to travel on the railway and stop off for a walk along the Weardale Way footpath.

The awards were presented by Joan Nicholson and were given to the trust and David Heatherington, a founding member of the Weardale museum and a longstanding .

  1. That is really good news particularly as I was on the original committee 30 years ago that got Weardale Rly up and running again. I still wear my Weardale fleece and anorak with pride. Looking forward to returning on 31 May with UK Railtours
