The Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR) has announced the launch of its Trail of Discovery.
It’s a new trail between Witton Park in County Durham and Tees Valley, which closely follows parts of the original 26-mile route of the railway.
The historic route will be envisioned through murals at stations, with information panels and an augmented reality game.
Visitors will be able to see heritage structures, including the oldest railway bridge still in continuous use, Skerne Bridge. A section of the original track is still visible from the Brusselton Incline.

The trail was developed in partnership with Historic England and the Railway Heritage Trust and will permanently connect communities through paths and cycleways.
The trail will officially launch on June 10th, where murals will be unveiled from artists including Kate Jackson at the Grade II* listed Heighington and Aycliffe Railway Station, Adébayo Bolaji at Grade II* listed Darlington Railway Station, and Morag Myerscough at Stockton Station.

The artists will be working with community groups to reflect the places and people who have shaped the railway and its heritage.
The game on the trail will be voiced by Steve McGovern and will use augmented reality to bring parts of the line to life.
It will leave a legacy that future generations can explore and learn about the railway’s past.
