Stadler has received an order from Transports Montreux-Vevey-Riviera (MVR) for eight cogwheel trains.

A contract for the trains was signed on the 20th May and will improve customer experience.

The multiple-unit trains will be in use from 2029, taking passengers from Montreux to the summit of Rochers-de-Naye in Switzerland. The new fleet of trains will replace the current 40-year-old fleet.

The trains will be specifically designed to target tourist requirements. They will feature large windows, a view out the front, and the middle carriage will have a panoramic window to provide a spectacular view of the landscape.

They will be able to hold 216 passengers, and will feature a first-class compartment.

The braking energy of the trains will be able to be converted into electrical energy, which will feed back into the power grid.

“This is a very special project for Stadler. The combination of iconic design, state-of-the-art
cogwheel technology and panoramic experience is unique. We are delighted that we can
contribute to making the journey up the Rochers-de-Naye a special experience with our
customised cogwheel trains,”

Frédéric Evequoz, Sales Manager for customised vehicles at Stadler.
