The Coast Light Railway has been working on a new station at Seathorne Bank (formerly South Loop).

Thanks to the grant of £24,250 from the UK Prosperity Fund, they were able to move and build the station.

The grant was made jointly by the Prosperity Fund, East Lindsey District Council, South Holland District Council and Boston Borough Council.

Now, ahead of its opening on the 28th June, it has won the Federation of Master Builders’ Small Renovation Project award.

They have won this in their Yorkshire & Trent region and will be entered into the Association’s national awards.

The station has incorporated the 1887 coal office, added a platform, traditional lamps, benches and included step-free access.

The new station will help boost the local economy now that passengers can get off and have a look around rather than a travel there and back trip.

When the station does open in June, there will be celebrations accompanied by music from Swineshead Silver Band and dancing from Alford Morris.

“The award is a remarkable accolade for the foresight, ingenuity, hard work and skill of so many people, organisations and volunteers who have come together to conserve a historic part of the railway which built and to develop the heritage railway which each year attracts more and more people to the benefit of the local economy”.

LCLR Company Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Ellis Bros (Contractors) Ltd, John Chappell
