The Newquay Strategic Route is now open to the public. The new road was built to improve transport links and economic links.
The road links the south and the east of the town and crosses the Newquay branch line via a bridge.
The route has been built by the Duchy of Cornwall and Cornwall Council, and the bridge that arches over the railway is 25 metres long.

It was built using 16 pre-cast concrete units weighing 28.6 tonnes each.
The units were lifted into place, and embankments were constructed around the bridge and cladded with 1,000 tonnes of granite.

Additionally, the new route will allow for new housing to be built alongside community facilities and a recycling centre.
Businesses in Nansledan will be supported by the improvements, and cycle and walking routes are now linked up.

“It’s exciting to see the Newquay Strategic Route open and we’re proud to have played a critical role in building a new bridge over the Newquay branch line.
“This project is another great example of partners working together to benefit the local community.”
