Network Rail has invested nearly £1 million in order to improve level crossings across Lincolnshire.

Renewal work is planned to take place on four important level crossings: Holton le Moor, Brigg, Butterswood, and Little London.

Road users are advised to leave extra time while the work is carried out.

For Holton le Moor, the A46 will be closed from 10:30 pm on the 31st May to 6 am on the 3rd June. As there are no footpaths along the road, Network Rail staff will be available to assist anyone who needs a safe crossing. The crossing will be closed again on the 7th June from 5 pm til 3 pm on the 8th June.

Upgrades at Brigg will begin at 8 pm on the 2nd June til 7 am on the 5th June. There will be a temporary footpath across the railway for people to cross.

Butterswood level crossing’s work will start at 9 am on the 31st May until 12:30 pm on the 8th June.

At Little London, work will be underway from 9 am on the 31st May til 12:30 pm on the 8th June.

Work for the four crossings will include resurfacing of tarmac, repainting road markings, replacement of deck units and cill beams (the interface between tarmac and railway).

This maintenance will remove outdated features and make future maintenance more efficient.

Buses will replace trains between Cleethorpes and Barnetby whilst the work is carried out. Information on these buses can be found online.

“We understand that level crossing closures cause disruption and we thank the local community for their patience while we carry out these essential upgrades.

“This significant investment will deliver more reliable infrastructure, requiring less frequent maintenance in the future and helping to keep both road and rail users safe.”

Robin Stevens, asset engineer for Network Rail
