A £240 million investment made by Siemens Mobility in Goole Rail Village was recognised with a Special Recognition Award at the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Chairman’s Awards for the company’s contribution to the local economy and community of East Yorkshire.

The award recognises the profound and positive impact Goole Rail Village has made to the area, including Siemens’ support for local charities, schools, and community organisations.

As well as building trains, Goole Rail Village has components, logistics, innovation, office facilities, and a bogie assembly and service centre is being constructed. The village will bring 1,000 new jobs to the area, and another 1,700 opportunities in the supply chain.

Currently being assembled at the site are new trains for the Piccadilly line for Transport for London, which are due to start passenger service by the end of this year.

All Siemens Mobility mainline trains for the UK will now be built at Goole, including new Desiro Verve bi-mode trains that incorporate a battery, with potential savings for Britain’s railways of £3.5 billion and 12 million tonnes of CO2 over 35 years.

This year, over 20 new apprentices joined the Goole apprenticeship programme, which is part of a wider commitment to attract talent from diverse backgrounds.

These include partnerships with the Women into Manufacturing and Engineering campaign, and DFN Project SEARCH, which supports young adults with learning disabilities and autism.

“We’re honoured to receive this award and proud of the positive impact we have made, economically and socially, in East Yorkshire. It’s a tribute to all of our talented team who are so passionate about supporting the local community. Our commitment to Goole is about so much more than investment, jobs and skills. It’s about becoming embedded in the local area and being a supportive partner of community groups and charities.? The Goole Rail Village is continuing to develop and so too is our work to create a deep and lasting legacy for the local community.”
