Southend United Football Club and rail company Trenitalia c2c paid a visit to Bournes Green Junior School earlier this week (22nd May).

Kevin Maher, Nathan Ralph and c2c presented the Under 11’s Girls team with a commemorative Wembley final kit.

The kit was c2c sponsored, which they will wear in the National League Trust final on the 1st June.

The team will be representing the local National League side, Southend United Football Club, following their double wins earlier this year.

They will play against AFC Flyde, who were the northern region winners, at 1 pm on the Sunday. The match runs just ahead of the National League Promotion Play-Off final between Southend United and Oldham Athletic at 3 pm.

“It was an absolute honour to have the Southend United Head Coach, Kevin Maher and Club Captain, Nathan Ralph, gatecrash our assembly – the look on the children’s faces, and those of my staff, will live long in the memory.

“I am so grateful to c2c for arranging and sponsoring the girls’ stylish new kits, and to everyone at Southend United for coming to visit us having arrived home from their fantastic penalty shoot-out win at Forest Green Rovers in the early hours of this morning.”

Bournes Green Schools’ headteacher, David Denchfield
