Volunteers from City Community Foundation and Peer Action Collective joined railway staff in cleaning up station.

Ahead of its new platform opening, they spent the day litter picking and cleaning up around the station, car park and the station entrance.

As part of the £24 million government funding, the station’s new platform makes it ready for additional trains to run from Bradford to King’s Cross, which will be opened on the 19th May.

Parts of the managed station were repainted and upgraded earlier this year in preparation for this new addition, and for those arriving for Bradford’s UK City of Culture celebrations, which has its own special train livery.

The team at the station’s next project will be working on a green space next to platform one, for a new community garden, instead of its current overgrown state.

“It was fantastic to see all the volunteers pitch in and make sure Bradford Forster Square is looking its best when the new platform opens next week. We’d like to thank them for all their hard work.

“While that platform has been taking shape, we have been working closely with partners like and Network Rail to upgrade and improve other parts of the station over the last year and provide a warm welcome to all the visitors travelling for the City of Culture.”
