station in will be closed for 30 days later this year so that engineers can carry out work on the (TRU).

The station will be closed from Saturday, 30th August until Monday, 29th September, with the closure of the Grade I listed station being one of the main parts to unlocking the benefits of the upgrade, and will be the most significant project so far.

Included in the work are major changes to the track and platforms so that it can accommodate more and longer trains.

Once these changes have been completed, further improvements to the station’s infrastructure will be carried out.

These include the installation of a new, accessible footbridge and the of the station’s historic Grade II-listed tearooms.

The tearooms were carefully dismantled last year, resulting in 8,000 different parts that will be repainted before they are reinstalled in a different location on the platform.

Other work already underway at the station is the restoration of the station’s iconic roof canopy, which is one of the country’s remaining few Euston-style station roofs. Its renovation has been planned in detail to preserve the canopy’s historic features whilst ensuring its durability for the foreseeable future. Scaffolding and the covering over one section of the roof will be removed in the coming weeks.

Whilst the station is closed, there will be no train services through the station, and will serve as the alternative station for Huddersfield.

Some train services will be diverted over alternative routes, and rail-replacement buses will be provided. At the end of the closure, the station will temporarily only have three platforms available for train services.

“Our upgrade of Huddersfield station is one of the most important projects across the entire TRU programme, and this 30-day closure will allow us to take a giant leap towards giving the station a deserved makeover without harming its heritage. Ultimately, the work in Huddersfield is key to improving the journeys of millions of people across the North increasing the number of tracks through the station and remodelling its platforms means we will will be able to run faster, more frequent trains with enhanced capacity in the future. We re pleased with the recent programme milestones in Huddersfield and are excited for these to progress further in the summer.”
