Following yesterday’s shooting at Milton Keynes railway station, Thames Valley Police have released an update.

Officers were called to reports of a man carrying a firearm at the station. Armed officers attended the scene and challenged a white man who was carrying a knife outside the station.

The man moved at speed towards the officers with the knife before the shot was fired.

The man died at the scene at 1.44 pm.

The police have made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, who will be carrying out their investigation, and police have asked people not to share footage or speculate online.

Officers are still at the scene, with disruption to taxis and buses, but trains continue to run as normal.

“We understand that this incident may cause concern locally, but we would like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk to the public.”

Milton Keynes commander, Chief Superintendent Emma Baillie
