The BR Class 8 Steam Locomotive Trust and Locomotive Services Group have announced that 71000 Duke of Gloucester is set to move to the Severn Valley Railway.

The movement will take place via road transport on the 1st May 2025.

On arrival at the Severn Valley Railway, 71000 will continue to receive commissioning work before static and dynamic testing.

A careful evaluation of the locomotive will take place during testing to make sure the locomotive is ready for its return to the mainline.

Volunteers and members will be a part of the effort to return 71000 to the mainline. The Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust will work with the trust and Locomotive Services Limited to add whatever support is needed in the final stages of the project.

More updates will follow in the coming weeks.

  1. I’m really exited to see it back on the mainline. I’m hoping it will run the Lakelander tour to Carlisle later this year or early next year as I live near Carlisle.
