There will be no trains on the Heart of Wales line between Carmarthen and Swansea and Llandrindod Wells for 18 days in May.
The line will be closed from Tuesday, 6th May to Friday, 23rd May to enable Network Rail to carry out essential maintenance work between Llanwrtyd and Pantyffynnon.
During the closure, engineering teams will carry out various maintenance tasks to avoid further disruption in the future. This includes:
- Installing a new cattle grid.
- Repairing an important bridge and walls that provide river defences.
- Vegetation management by cutting back trees, plants, and hedges, to ensure train drivers have clear visibility of the track, and signals are not obstructed.
- Improving drainage to reduce the risk of flooding during severe weather.
- Removing graffiti and clearing rubbish left along the line after fly-tipping.
The work is part of Network Rail’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable railway, and maintaining the track and repairing the infrastructure will help to ensure passengers have smoother and safer journeys.
To help promote the scenic beauty of the Heart of Wales Line, last year, the Heart of Wales Line Community Rail Partnership launched a bilingual website with details of circular walks that start at stations along the line.
A free walking and wellness app has also been released by Transport for Wales in partnership with Go Jauntly, which shows over 100 miles of walking from railway stations across the Principality.
“We’d like to thank passengers and local communities for their patience and understanding while we carry out this vital work on the Heart of Wales line.”
Route director Nick Millington
