A new accessible toilet for passengers is now available at White Hart Lane London Overground station.

The new toilet will soon be followed by a similar facility at Seven Sisters London Overground station, and is part of a plan funded by the Mayor of London to improve and increase the number of accessible toilets on the (TfL) network.

In 2024, TfL announced a commitment to introducing toilets at selected stations, and to increasing the number of accessible toilets, with the aim of ensuring that passengers are always within twenty minutes of a toilet without having to change trains.

The new toilet at White Hart Lane station has been created by extensive works to convert a disused space, including levelling the floor between the platform and the toilet. The new toilet provides a facility where there was previously a gap in provision between Cheshunt and Bush Hill Park stations to the north on the London Overground Weaver line, and Hackney Downs station to the south.

TfL has also confirmed that new toilet facilities will be installed at Amersham, and Morden stations by the end of 2025 or early in 2026.

Work to refurbish twelve facilities across the TfL network will also take place this year, at , Epping, Finchley Central, Grange Hill, Harrow-on-the-Hill, Rickmansworth, South Woodford, Stanmore, Theydon Bois, Uxbridge, and stations. Several further facilities will have new LED lighting installed. TfL is installing this type of lighting across many of its stations.

TfL is also investigating the possibility of increasing and improving toilet provision at bus stations.

It has carried out an audit to help it determine which are the most appropriate locations for new toilets, conversions and refurbishments.

Toilets are currently available at 146 TfL sites, and a further forty toilets are available within stations on the network that TfL does not manage.

TfL has published a Toilet Tube Map, which shows all toilet facilities across its network. The map shows which toilets are accessible to wheelchair users, and also indicates where baby changing facilities are available. Information about toilets is also available on the TfL Go app.

At stations without toilet facilities, staff can advise passengers on where to find the nearest public and accessible toilets.

“Toilet provision is critical for many Londoners and visitors, and can even determine whether somebody travels on public transport at all. That’s why it’s great news this new toilet at White Hart Lane is now open, with Seven Sisters and more to come.

“The Mayor and I are committed to making our transport network as accessible as possible, and we’re investing £3 million every year over five years to improve and increase the number of accessible toilets on the network, the largest investment in toilets the network has ever seen. It’s all part of our plan to continue building a better, fairer London for everyone.”
