London North Eastern Railway‘s onboard information portal is proving to be a resounding success, with over one million ‘hits’ since it was launched.
As well as using the portal to receive live journey updates, passengers have also used it to listen to top entertainment and order delicious food for delivery directly to their seats.
Access to the portal is by scanning a QR code displayed on the backs of seats or at tables.
During the last year, the portal was accessed by customers travelling on London North Eastern Railway train services 1.3 million times.
Friday, 13th December, recorded the most number of scans, and December was also the busiest month overall. Updates will soon be rolled out to improve the portal’s functionality, navigation and design.
Since its launch, customers have used it to order over 393,000 items of food and drink, with one of the most popular items being cups of Yorkshire Tea.
In the last twelve months, over 82,000 cups of Yorkshire Tea were delivered from the onboard café bar directly to customers’ seats.
The podcast Routes from LNER, in which well-known guests engage in compelling conversations describing incredible journeys, can also be streamed directly from the portal.
Season One, which can now be downloaded in full, was hosted by renowned presenter and broadcaster Clara Amfo and featured guests including Mel B, Tom Grennan, Dynamo, Lennie James, Maisie Adam. Season Two will be available soon.
Other train operators also offer podcasts on their trains, including Govia Thameslink Railway and Greater Anglia.
