Train operator Greater Anglia has announced its annual discounted ‘Spring Hare Fares’.

The Hare Fares are only for standard off-peak day returns within Greater Anglia’s area, and are available from today (Tuesday 8 April) until Tuesday 10 June.

Passengers may only buy the tickets during the next two weeks. For adults, prices are £7, £14, £22 and £28. For children, the fare is £2.

A passenger may buy as many tickets as they want to.

Examples of journeys where the £7 return fare applies are Norwich to Sheringham, Norwich to Lowestoft, and Norwich to Great Yarmouth. Journeys where the £14 return fare applies include Cambridge to London, Chelmsford to London, and Norwich to Cambridge.

For £22, passengers can take a return journey such as Chelmsford to Ipswich, Colchester to London, or Southend to Colchester. The £28 fare applies to the longest journeys, including Chelmsford to Norwich, Norwich to London, and Shenfield to Norwich.

However, Hare Fares are not valid on journeys wholly within the Oyster zone.

Passengers can only buy the tickets online, and only from Greater Anglia’s website or app. No booking fees apply.

Greater Anglia also offered Hare Fares last spring and last autumn, although its charges have risen since then.

The operator is also reminding passengers that it offers other discounted Advance tickets, at less than half the prices of standard ‘walk-up’ prices. It also offers two-for-one entry to some visitor attractions in London and East Anglia.

Greater Anglia’s GroupSave offers discounts on fares for people travelling in a group of three or more. It also offers a ‘London evening out’ fare, and a ‘Club 50’ discount for passengers aged 50 or over.

“Travelling by train is cheaper than you think, and our new bargain Hare Fares mean people can travel for less this spring.

“Our region has so much to offer and whether it’s a trip to the city or coast, shopping or sightseeing, we’re giving people more money to spend on having a great time by helping them save money on their train fare.

“Hare Fares can be purchased throughout the Easter holidays too, so families can enjoy great days out. Greater Anglia has a range of great value fares and up to four children can travel for just £2 each way with any adult.”
