The Yorkshire Wolds Railway is carrying out its final preparations before opening for the 2025 season on Sunday, 6 April.
There have been some significant changes since last season. The shop that used to be on the platform is now inside a British Rail MK2 coach.
There have also been improvements to the track, and some changes to the site layout.
The Railway is also building a new Visitor Centre and Working Facility. It is not yet finished, so visitors will only get to see it under construction.
Eventually, it will provide a large undercover area, where Railway members will work on rolling stock and visitors will be able to watch what goes on behind the scenes.
Despite receiving a government grant last year, the Railway still needs to raise over eighty thousand pounds to complete fitting out the building.

This season’s attractions will include running trains and opening the visitor centre every Sunday, the Bank Holiday from 6 April until the end of October, and every Wednesday during school holidays from 10am – 4pm.
Special events include Static Engines and a Steam Show, and repeats of last year’s successful model railway show and visit from Santa Claus and his elves.
Last year was the best operating season that the Yorkshire Wolds Railway has had so far. The Railway was established in 2008, running along a section of the Malton and Driffield Junction Railway, which had closed fifty years earlier. The railway is located just outside Wetwang off the A166 York to Driffield Road

“Once again our members have worked in all weathers to help bring an improved experience for visitors throughout 2025 and beyond. One of the biggest changes is with the shop that is now located on the platform within a British Rail MK2 coach. To fit the shop, we had to remove half the seats, but the other half remain so once your cup of tea has been bought, you can sit back and watch the train go by in comfort – whatever the weather. Our members have also been working on improving the track, changing the site layout and a lot of painting along with many other tasks.”
