Scotland’s train operator will provide extra capacity for travel to and from the country’s men’s rugby team match against Wales, which will take place at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday, 8 March.

The match kicks off at 16.45 and is Scotland’s final home match of this year’s Six Nations tournament.

ScotRail has confirmed that extra carriages will be added to trains on routes in and out of Edinburgh throughout the day.

Routes with additional capacity will include those between Edinburgh Waverley and Fife, Perth, and the Borders Railway, where possible.

The operator made similar arrangements when Scotland played England at Murrayfield last month.

ScotRail is advising fans that they may have to wait longer than usual for their journey home after the match.

This is because of ongoing access restrictions at Haymarket station, due to the redevelopment of a building adjacent to the station.

The redevelopment work has reduced capacity within the station by half.  This issue has been impacting travel to and from matches for several years.

Edinburgh Trams operates a quick and frequent service between the stadium’s entrance and St Andrew Square tram stop, which is a short walk from Edinburgh Waverley.

Passengers can access Edinburgh City Centre from Murrayfield by using one of a number of Lothian Bus services (1, 3, 12, 22, 25, 26, 30, 31 or 33).

Additional ScotRail staff will be on duty to help passengers. ScotRail is reminding the public that it does not allow the carrying and consumption of alcohol on its trains and stations.

“We’re excited to play our part in making Scotland’s final home game of this year’s Six Nations a success.

“If you’re heading to Murrayfield to cheer on your side when Scotland play Wales, please plan ahead as services are expected to be busy. We’d also encourage you to buy your return mTickets in advance on the ScotRail app.

“To help you travel to and from the game, we’ll be adding extra carriages to trains throughout the day, where possible.”
