The subway at station in South has undergone a remarkable transformation as part of a project to reduce local vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

The previous artworks installed along the underpass some time ago had become tired, while the new immersive paintings which also run the length of the underpass are something to admire.

Many of the 66,000 people who use the station every year will be able to see the artwork as they use this particular underpass.

This subway is also used frequently by the locals who walk underneath the line, which links two sides of a former mining village.

In partnership with , the murals were commissioned by Thurnscoe Regeneration a local charity which has been working on improving the facilities and general upkeep of the station.

Created in style to represent the wonderful Yorkshire landscape that surrounds the local area, the work was designed by Jayde Bell, a local artist.

The artwork adds a splash of colour to the subway while offering a taste of the surrounding countryside in glorious detail as people pass the mural at close quarters along this narrow underpass.

“The underpass is a bit of a thoroughfare for the village and it was just looking a bit tired. It needed a bit of tender loving care.

It’s nice to see it looking so much fresher and we know the residents of Thurnscoe will appreciate the artwork as it shows that people care for the place.

We want it to be an immersive experience for people, so when they walk through they are taken through the seasons. We also want to celebrate the fact we live in a very green and beautiful part of the world.”
