A broken rail means that some lines between Crewe and Runcorn / Warrington Bank Quay have been closed.
This means that trains running between these stations may be cancelled, revised, diverted or delayed by up to 80 minutes.
Avanti West Coast says that ticket acceptance is in place with a number of operators and rail replacement transport has been requested to run.
London Northwestern Railway says that trains will be diverted but ticket acceptance is in place with Merseyrail between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime Street. Rail replacement buses have also been requested.
Delays are expected until 12 noon today (24th March)

Why on earth can’t they say that the problem is at Winsford? Saying “Crewe and Runcorn / Warrington Bank Quay” is a mouthful that won’t necessarily help. Saying that the problem is at Winsford and it affects trains between Crewe and Runcorn, and between Crewe and Warrington BQ would surely be easier to visualise and understand. (I assumed that the issue is at Winsford because that’s the hashtag used…)
