UPDATE: Timings for the movement to Carnforth have been published and can be found by clicking here.
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust has announced that 60163 Tornado’s visit to the East Lancashire Railway next week has been postponed.
The A1 has completed test trips at the Nene Valley Railway following the installation of a new grate. The trust says that this was tested successfully, and they now have the right certification to run on the national network.
Timings are not yet released, but it is planned for Tornado to head to Carnforth tomorrow (7th March) before a possible loaded test run on the Carnforth Circle.
With the short amount of time before the visit to the East Lancashire Railway, it has been decided to postpone the visit, which will allow time to make sure Tornado is properly tested and ready for its 2025 season.
The A1 Trust said: “We know that there will be disappointment that we will not be operating public trains at the ELR this month but be assured that Tornado is now moving towards a much-awaited re-emergence onto the national network and a busy programme of railtours across the UK, plus visits to preserved lines too.”

I agree—it’s very disappointing. I hope they can find a replacement of similar stature. I know that 60532 Blue Peter (good shout, John Stirzaker—below) is around the North West this week, so fingers crossed.
Does this mean that Legends of Steam will be postponed or just 60163’s visit
Just 60163’s visit, they now have all the other arrangements in place and they have started to sell tickets. The dining trains will have a substitutive locomotive. Not sure what train is going to replace 60163’s timetable
Very sad but not a surprise. My money is on Blue Peter.
Would love for it to be Blue Peter but I doubt it.
Ok thanks.. last year features two LSL locomotives so the ELR could contact LSL if they have any locos spare like Blue Peter.
