Over the last weekend, 22 & 23 March 2025, contractor BAM lifted a 92-tonne bridge span into place at station.

Taking approximately 3 hours to complete with 15 staff members overseeing the installation, this bridge, 56 metres in length, is part of a larger £14.5m project to improve the facilities at Eaglescliffe.

This will see better pedestrian and cycle access and lifts from the existing and newly built car park to the platforms.

The footbridge, which currently links the existing car park to the station, will remain in place for the foreseeable future and will act as a secondary emergency exit during times of emergencies.

The funding for this project has come from a variety of sources, the Combined Authority, Network Rail the , and the Levelling Up Fund allocation for Stockton South.

“This achievement marks an important milestone in improving accessibility at Eaglescliffe station. The bridge installation demonstrates our commitment to working collaboratively with partners to deliver better passenger facilities.

We’re proud to invest significantly in this vital project that will transform the travel experience, creating a more inclusive railway network for everyone in the Tees Valley region.”
