has made a number of investments at its Rail Village, all aimed at being low-.

Siemens says that the Rail Village now has minimal operational emissions, with green energy generation, clean heating and sustainable transport policies.

1,700 solar panels across the three manufacturing buildings have been installed at Goole, capable of generating up to 1MW of energy.

The £2m solar array covers 20,000 sq m of roof space and is producing enough energy to meet the site’s needs.

Any energy produced by the solar panels during non-production hours, such as weekends, is exported back into the grid and any additional energy required during peak times is exclusively sources from renewable methods.

In addition to the solar panels, Siemens’ vehicle fleet is being changed over to EVs and EV charging points across the site, with an aim for a total of 70 charging points, or one for every 10 parking spaces.

Finbarr Dowling, Siemens Mobility Director of Localisation, said: “Our vision from the very outset was for the Goole Rail Village to be net zero in its operations by 2030, with this state-of-the-art facility playing a central part in our mission to transform rail travel and transport in the UK.

  1. Oh dear, I have a 3.25Kw system on my roof, it has never generated 3,25Kw, on the longest day I may be able to cook christmas dinner with careful planning but on christmas day I would be lucky to warm the gravy, in the middle of winter it generates virtually nothing so batteries(toxic bombs) are not an answer, it is good for powering air conditioning on hot days. it also pays me 25p per unit for every unit I generate until October 2032 this comes from your electric bill standing charge, a Milliband tax.
