The latest figures from East Midlands Railway show that the number of digital tickets being used has hit a new record high, with an uptake of nearly 80%.
The new figures cover the period of 5th January 2025 to the 1st February 2025 and show that 79.90% of all tickets bought were digital.
However, EMR has reiterated that if passengers do wish to have a paper ticket, these can be bought from ticket offices at staffed stations.
Simon Pready, Commercial Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “With nearly 80 per cent of tickets now purchased digitally, it’s clear that customers value the ease and flexibility that digital ticketing provides.
“Whether it’s avoiding queues, reducing paper waste, or having instant access to tickets on their phone, digital options are transforming the way people travel. Of course, for those who prefer a traditional paper ticket, that option remains available at our staffed stations.”
